Next week I will be delivering the Transition and Pathway (TaPs) lessons to Year 7 to 10 students. The TaPs program has been in place at St Joseph’s for over three years. Its purpose is to ensure students are provided with the opportunities and the means to be fully prepared for post school life.
The week will begin with a whole school assembly, where I will reinforce the value and purpose of the program by emphasising the journeys each student embarks on when entering highschool:
The OUTWARD Journey. Discovering the world around you. Starting in Stage 4, students uncover subjects that align with their interests. Moving to Stage 5, where students enter the world of work and begin searching for part-time positions, work experience and traineeships. Through to Stage 6, where student work placement, apprenticeship and further education decisions are made.
The outward journey is full of endless possibilities and the TaPs lessons are a place to unlock those possibilities and discover what opportunities are available.
The INWARD journey. Discovering the person inside you. Starting in Stage 4, students identify the activities, interests and hobbies they participate in and learn how these can align with work-based competencies. Moving to Stage 5, students appreciate and build awareness of their unique talents and how these personality strengths transfer into the world of work. Through to Stage 6, where students mature into adulthood and begin to realise their potential, their purpose, their “why”.
The inward journey helps direct students to the right opportunities and has a strong connection to their well-being and general success and happiness.

University of Wollongong:
UOW Discovery Day 2025 - Registration OPEN!
Student registrations for Discovery Days opened on Tuesday, 19th November 2024, allowing students to sign up and submit their details. Unlike previous years, students will not select their timetables at this stage. Timetable selection will be available in the new year, once schools return, and we will notify you of the exact date soon.
During the initial registration period, students will select the study areas they are interested in, and UOW will use student responses to design a tailored program based on these preferences.
To accommodate this there will be a limited registration window and will open Tuesday, 19th November 2024, at 9:30 AM and close Friday, 15th December 2024 at 3:00 PM.
Students will be able to find the registration link at uow.edu.au/engage/schools-parents/high-school/discovery-days
Once timetable selections are available in the new year once school returns, students will receive a direct link to complete their timetable registration easily ensuring they have speedy access to plan their day.
