Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander News

On Monday we came together as a community to recognise NAIDOC. NAIDOC week is 7th-14th July this year and the theme is Voice, Treaty and Truth. This marks a significant part of our shared history with Australia's first people Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. We celebrated on Monday and witnessed our amazing Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal students dance and perform a beautiful dance piece created by Miss Jo and Ms Toumanda.

Many thanks to the parents who came along to the assembly and morning tea afterwards.

Thank you to Mrs Burns and Mrs Mercieca for teaching our amazing choir the National Anthem in Aboriginal Language. We were so blessed by hearing such wonderful voices sing in our First peoples language.

Our students were amazing, the Liturgy was lead by Miah Williams (Year 7) and Tionne Cleary (Year 10), who did us as a community, their family and culture proud.

Our Dance group, who were trained by Jo ball and Toumanda Fohrman, did such an amazing performance, which was quite moving. They were supported on the Didjeridu by Uncle Mark Mongta. Shae was then joined by Ryan Chudleigh and Jack Costa of year 11 and Uncle Mark to perform a special Didjeridu performance.

On Wednesday 19th June our Dance group and other Aboriginal students attended the Bangarra Dance Performance in Sydney. It was a fantastic day in the big city, with a few train changes and lots of walking.

Friday 28th June we will be attending the Cultural sites tour.  Your child will need to be at school by 8:00am as the Bus will depart at 8:05am.
