Elite Athelete Nutrition Workshop

Last week we had our athletes take part in a nutrition cooking practical workshop run by Embody Nutrition. They cooked 3 recipes (Chickpea Brownies, Overnight Weetbix & Mexican Chicken Wraps).

The aim of the workshop was to upskill them on how to cook some quick and easy nutritional snacks/meals to fuel their training. It was great to see them take on the challenge.

A massive thank you to the TAS faculty including Mrs Schott who assisted with preparation and cleaning for our athletes so they could get maximum cooking time.

NSWCCC Athletics

Congratulations to our athletes who represented the Wollongong Diocese at NSWCCC Athletics.

Our students represented our school with pride and had some fantastic results including Isabella Clowes placing 1st in the Junior Female Triple Jump, Kaylie Murray placing 4th in 13yrs Shot Put and Bianca de Swardt placing 4th in the 1500m and 800m events.

Girls Dio Cricket

Our inexperienced girls' cricket team went above and beyond at the recent gala day, especially considering only one team member plays cricket outside of school. It was amazing to watch the girls have a go, develop their skills as the day progressed, and most importantly, cheer each other on. All the girls exceeded expectations, and they should be incredibly proud of their performance. We encourage them to consider playing cricket over the summer.

Our first match was against a formidable St Pat's team, which boasted several representative players. While the experience of St Pat's secured them the win, our girls put up a fantastic fight. As the day went on, the team improved immensely. Batting second in our next game against John Terry, we managed a brilliant win. A major highlight was Olivia R’s incredible six, which she followed up in the same over with a beautifully timed four. She was the only student in our pool to hit a six all day. Our final pool game was against the undefeated Holy Spirit. Our girls performed extremely well, and a key moment was Lilly P’s spectacular ‘caught and bowled’, which was wildly celebrated on the sidelines.

Because of our win and strong performances, we made the playoffs against Corpus Christi. We bowled first and did an amazing job to keep the score within reach. A special mention goes to Violet P, who took her first-ever cricket wicket – a fantastic achievement! The run chase was tense, and despite a brilliant effort, we narrowly lost by just six runs.

I would like to extend a huge thank you to Brooklyn B for her expert coaching and scoring on the day. She was an inspiration and provided invaluable advice to the girls. Thanks also to Blake R and Mitchell W for their fantastic coaching, for warming the girls up before each game, and for their technical advice. Kobi E also deserves special recognition as our fearless captain. With her excellent cricket knowledge, she skillfully managed all field placings and provided wonderful guidance and support to the less experienced players.

Lastly, a thank you to Mr Lewis for his work preparing the girls for the day and a heartfelt thank you to all the parents who helped get the girls to the event and to those who were able to stay and cheer on our team. I am sure they would agree it was a great day and that the girls’ performance was something to be proud of.

Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and I was incredibly proud to accompany the team. I hope the girls are inspired to continue developing their cricket skills, and I look forward to seeing the team return next year, bigger and better than ever.

MVPs: Lilly P and Olivia R

Boy's Dio Cricket

On Wednesday the 24th of September the Junior boys cricket side competed in the Diocesean Cricket Gala day at Reed Park, Dapto. The games were 7 overs a side and everyone was given a chance to bowl one over.

Our first game we took on St Benedict's and we chased down their total of 43. Max Elliot retired 25 not out. Second game we took on Holy Spirit. Unfortunately we didn't play our best and Holy Spirit was too strong and defeated us. They posted 63 runs and we replied with 47.

Third game the boys bounced back and had a huge win over St Francis. We posted 100 runs off 7 overs with Blake Knight, Max Elliot and Mitch Whalan all retiring on 25 runs. The boys backed it up in the field and restricted St Francis to 17 runs. With Sam Barrett taking a big wicket with his first ball. Our final game we had another good win over John Therry. We chased down their total of 37 quite easily.

We finished second in our pool and made the finals and found ourselves in a playoff against Magdalene for 3rd spot. We lost early wickets and could never really get going and posted 43. Jaxson Smith picked up a great wicket early but unfortunately Magdalene chased the total down.

We finished 4th out of 10 teams on the day and learnt a lot to take with us into the Berg Shield.

MVP - Blake Knight
