Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander News
Welcome back to school for 2020.
Our coast line has been ravaged by fire causing much devastation to our natural environment, wiping out hundreds of thousands of hectares of forest, native animals, bush foods and medicines.
Out of this devastation we have seen much opportunity for community building. We have seen and heard of many communities and many people out of community coming to the aide of their neighbours, pitching in and helping people rebuild homes, fences and secure livestock that did survive.
St Joseph’s have a lot of events planned for 2020. We are looking at continuing Aboriginal dance, our connection with AIME, creating a greater connection to community through visiting and spending time with students from the other Diocesean schools.
We hope to build greater connections with our local families and elders and hope to have them more involved in supporting cultural initiatives and activities here at school.
Our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education information night will be held on 25 February 2020. During this meeting we will explain our draft plan for 2020, including the cultural activities we are planning to take part in. We will also introduce you to the team.
