Careers
Welcome to the May edition of the Joey’s Careers Corner. It has been a very busy couple weeks of engaging with all students remotely and we look forward to having all back onsite in week 5.
Week 4 was National Careers Week and all years 10,11 and 12 students had the opportunity to participate in a virtual careers expo through Year 13. Students were able to hear from experts, chat with influencers and explore exhibitors from a range or University, TAFE’s, Employers and Gap Year providers. It was a great format and I am sure students will use what they have learnt to follow their passion beyond school. For more information on year 12 ‘MyFuture’ webinars, students have been emailed a term 2 schedual.
As students return to face to face teaching the Careers, TAPS and VET coordinators will continue to work with students, particularly in year 12 at this time, to ensure we can prepare them for post school options. For those students considering University, UAC preferences are now open, earlybird preferences will continue until 30th of September. UAC recently presented Live information sessions via Instagram Live and Facebook Live for Year 12 students wishing to apply to universities and their response to COVID-19. I would also encourage all future university students to check these out, so that you are informed about changes to NESA and university admissions. Finally we encourage students and parents who wish to discuss their future pathways to make contact with the Careers team.
Thank you

Given the challenges presented to HSC students this year, UOW are working with InspirED to present a HSC Subject Support Series. These sessions will run Mon-Thu at 7:30pm from week 2 to week 10 (excluding week 8 which will be our UOW Information Nights).
They will run on a zoom platform and students will register to attend specific subject sessions. These subjects will be delivered by Senior HSC markers.
These will be free and available to all year 12 students from any school. The website and registrations for these are now live: https://www.uow.edu.au/study/events/hsc-support-series/
