Downie Shield Cricket
On Friday 11 November the Senior Boys Cricket Team competed in the Downie Shield Competition against Edmund Rice at Des King Oval.
Cooper Smith captained the side and Edmund Rice won the toss and elected to bat. Lucas Ruprecht opened the bowling and found the edge in the first over with Jackson Rieck completing the catch at wicketkeeper. Lucas picked up another wicket and Liam Cergovski also chipped in with a wicket of his own. Jett Stroemer also picked up an LBW after drinks and was the pick of the fielders with some great diving stops in the outfield. From then on Edmund Rice batted well and finished with 280 runs from 40 overs.
Unfortunately Joey's started slow with the bat as the Edmund Rice opening bowlers did a lot of damage with the new ball. Cooper Smith was the highlight with the bat finishing on 24 not out and we were bowled out for 32 in reply.
The weather was kind to us and it was a great day and although we didn't get the win there were some great moments from the day. Edmund Rice put together a really strong side and now moves on in the competition with our boys being knocked out.
