TAFE NSW Industry Event

On Saturday 19 November 2022 TAFE NSW is hosting the Pathways to STEM Careers Day at TAFE NSW Wollongong.  

STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.  Demand for STEM workers is projected to grow by 12.9 per cent over the next five years, which is well above the average of all occupations (7.8 per cent) and more than twice as fast as non-STEM occupations (6.2 per cent), according to a National Industry Insights Report.

While often associated with the university sector, a report released by the Office of the Chief Scientist on Australia’s STEM workforce shows that the vocational education and training sector provides more than two-thirds of Australia’s STEM workforce.

The event will be open to current TAFE NSW learners, school leavers and the wider community with an opportunity to experience new teaching technology, view the TAFE NSW training facilities and explore career pathway options.  It will also be a chance for the industry to showcase their organisations to the community, display innovations and inspire potential future employees to follow a career in STEM. 

Part of the day will be the 2022 FIRST LEGO League EXPLORE Expo and the 2022 FIRST LEGO League CHALLENGE which will see over 250 participants, the future of STEM, compete for the chance to represent the region at the National Championship to be held in December 2022.  This is a friendly competition as teams of students (6-16 years) engage in research, problem-solving, coding, engineering-building and programming a LEGO robot that navigates the missions of a robot game.  Find out more about First Australia: www.firstaustralia.org     

With over 800 people expected through the gates, we invite local industry organisations to be part of the day by attending the industry networking event and/or hosting a stand as part of the event exhibition space.

This will be an opportunity to attend the Open Ceremony of the 2022 FIRST LEGO League CHALLENGE regional competition and engage with TAFE NSW on thought leadership with STEM in the Illawarra.

8.30am to 4pm | Stand space 2m x 3m, larger areas available on request.
No charge to exhibit or have a display on the day. Lunch provided.
4pm Closing Ceremony of the 2022 FIRST LEGO League.
