Lunchtime Basketball
A very exciting lunchtime basketball competition was held during Term 3. The winners of the Year 7 & 8 Competition, "2016 Warriors" played the winners of the Year 9 & 10 competition, "Overtime". It was such an awesome game to watch with the young guns holding their own and coming within 3 points of the undefeated seniors. It was awesome to watch the calibre of talent amongst the two teams. There were 3 pointers galore! Overtime progressed to play the Joey’s All Stars, in the Tournament of Champions. It was another entertaining game with the Joey’s All Stars victorious by 7 points. Congratulations to the All Star team which consisted of Mr Lewis, Mrs Linsley, Mr Sutton, Thomas Hofman, Thomas Welland, Alex Sipka, Tristan Denmeade. Overtime was outstanding throughout the entire tournament and also assisted with additional duties. Well done to Luke Kolts, Xavier Infante, Harvey Andrews, Lucas Thompson, Liam Cergovski, Isaac Galea and Robert Kynes. Thank you also to Tim Bloomfield and Ridhaan Pannala for refereeing and to Prince Barian and Owen Micovski for scoring.
Australian Cross Country & NSWCCC Athletics Championships
On Saturday 27 August Grace Pomery competed at the Australian Cross Country Championships in Adelaide South Australia. Held at picturesque Oakbank in the Adelaide Hills the course set a challenging task for the 1200 athletes selected to represent their various States from U12 through to Open men and women.
Competing in the U18 women the course was a true cross country event . On a tight and technical course, best described as a "heavy track", the 4km course tested the ability of all U18 women athletes. The unavoidable patches of mud, following rain earlier in the week, tested the ability of athletes to maintain their momentum throughout the race with several athletes losing shoes in the extremely muddy conditions. Grace finished a credible 34th (28th Australian) out of a field of 60 athletes, including several international runners. She was the 5th NSW athlete to cross the line. As with all athletes who competed, Grace should be proud of her ability to perform under such difficult conditions.
On a more recent note Grace also competed at the NSW CCC Championships in Sydney on 12th September. Competing in both the 17+ Girls 1500m and 800m, Grace put in a gritty performance to secure 2nd place in both events competing against girls a year older than herself.
Tayissa Buchanan also put in a gritty performance at the NSWCCC Athletics Championships to secure 2nd place in both the U16 Girls 400m and 800m.
Thomas Hofman finished 9th in the U13 Boys Javelin with a throw of 18.83m.
Congratulations
Congratulations to our Aspiring/Elite Athlete, Zali Schofield, who was awarded the 2022 Illawarra Academy of Sport Hockey Athlete of the Year.
