Congratulations to the Creative Arts Department for a wonderful Artstober and our visiting artist in residence Karolina Venter. The students had a wonderful fortnight and so creative.
Our Junior SRC training also went well and thank you to Ms Madaschi for her organisation. It was interesting to see our students' view on leadership connecting ethical choices and leadership. Thank you to our parents who attended on the day to give another perspective, your support was much appreciated. Our senior SRC members are also supporting the junior SRC in their projects throughout 2020 and were enthusiastic in their participation.
Year 10 have started their new classes well and their teachers, in most cases, have noted an increase in application. For Year 7 - 9 just a reminder for the information night on Monday at 7pm. The location will be announced on Monday to students depending on the number of RSVP's.
Our leadership team attended a presentation by Brene Brown earlier in the year. I brought the concept of vulnerability up with our junior student leaders. They were unfamiliar with the term, but their perspective made it interesting, especially when we asked whose opinion matters and who do you treat the worst, as often the answer is the same - as they are the ones that love us most. But sometimes our behaviours are about trying to impress 'strangers' or peers, and not always in a positive way. Reflecting on being vulnerable only strengthens our personal code of ethics. Being in any leadership position you have to trust those around you to work as part of the team - you don't have to have all the answers. A team brings strengths to any organisation and for education, it works best when teachers and parents are the team wanting the best for the young people in our care. Being vulnerable leaves you open to hurt but can also bring great joy ..... it is all in making wise choices.
Congratulations to Mr Zac Ellul for winning the Teachers Guild Early Career Teacher last Friday night. Well done! For a full article of the event, please click here.

UNIFORM UPDATE
Over the first few weeks of this term, students have been reminded about our expectations that all students present neatly in summer uniform as per pages 21-22 of the School Student Diary. We have been pleased to see that the majority of students have been well presented and appreciate the ongoing support of parents and carers.
Our students are very visible in the community and so we expect that all students will present themselves in a manner which displays that they are proud to belong to the St Joseph's school community.
STUDENTY DROP OFF AND PICK UP ZONE IN MACQUARIE STREET
To ensure the safety of all students, parents are reminded that it is a requirement that parents who are dropping off or picking up their sons and daughters from school do so in Macquarie St. This decreases the amount of traffic in the already busy bus zone. Where possible, if parents/carers turn from Tongarra Road into Amaral Avenue and then drive around the block to enter Macquarie Street, this allows access to the "no parking" zone at the front of the school for dropping and/or picking up your students. These "no parking" signs allow parents to stop at the front of the school for up to two minutes.
Your support as we aim to minimise the risk of an accident occurring on Church Street is greatly appreciated.
Mrs Jenny Bell
Assistant Principal

A reminder to all parents from Years 7-9 that we will be holding a Parent Consultation Meeting on Monday evening commencing at 7 pm. The purpose of the evening is to present a proposal for changes regarding HSC Pathway options which would enhance student learning needs. The proposal would assist all students and provide a better work-life balance whilst assisting in reducing anxiety around study when students enter Year 12. We look forward to seeing many parents in attendance on Monday evening.
Minimum standards testing will continue for Year 10 students next Thursday. All students will be completing the Reading test.
Year 10 students are reminded that the week commencing 18 November is assessment week. Students will receive their notifications over the next week and it is recommended that a study schedule is set up to ensure you are prepared for all assessments.
YEAR 11 HOSPITALITY

CSDA REGIONAL DEBATING - YEAR 11
On Tuesday 22 October 2019, four Year 11 students, Mayha Podolski, Dominic Plattner, Ethan Westlake and Zachary Johnson, attended the Catholic Schools Debating Association Regional Competition held at St Mary’s Star of the Sea College. The students participated in three debates on the day, one prepared and two impromptu, focusing on issues relating to ‘Success and failure’, ‘Pill testing at music festivals’ and ‘Foreign ownership and Investment’. Our team finished equal third with Corpus Christi Catholic High School, behind St Mary’s and Edmund Rice College.
This competition gave our students the opportunity to develop their debating skills as well as mix with like-minded students from across the region. Each of our students spoke extremely well and proudly represented our school.

Many of our students have been achieving brilliant sporting success in their chosen field.
In September, Molly Jewiss and her partners competed in the Australian National Clubs competition. Her acrobatic trio achieved first place in their age division. They have been selected onto the National Acrobatic Squad and will be trialling in February for the opportunity to represent their country in the World Acrobatic Championships in Switzerland in 2020.

Tayissa - 2nd 800m and 4th 400m
Tayissa is now off to represent nsw in Perth in December at the Australian All Schools championships.

Congratulations to all our students on these wonderful achievements and we wish you all the best in your next competitions.

SCHOOL FEES
Thank you to all the families that make such an effort to ensure that their fees are up to date. School fees are essential for the financial viability of Catholic schools. Upon enrolment of your child you have given an undertaking to meet payment of school fees as they fall due. School principals have the responsibility of ensuring school fees are collected.
The Catholic Education Office has strict guidelines, so it is suggested that all overdue payments are required now to avoid further action. School’s Financial Rollover is fast approaching. If you are having difficulty in paying your school fees, please contact the office to arrange an appointment with Ms Wilson to discuss this matter. Thank you
